Setup selling different sizes of the same inventory (bottle vs glass)

Some products are sold as different sizes from the same inventory source. You may sell your house red as a bottle, 125ml and 175ml glass. It’s important to setup the connected products to know how much inventory is in stock and what’s being wasted.

Set up using existing products in the system

  1. Edit the main product and add inventory to it. Select the unit that you count the stock in (bottle) and specify how much is in one bottle by editing the product content size.

  2. Make sure to add how much inventory is in stock for this product.

  3. Add another size variant to the original product. Link an existing product and find the product from the drop down. Specify how much stock is used in the size variant.

Set up by creating new products for drinks

  1. Create a new product for the main inventory source. Add the name, sales price, tax type and purchase costs.

  2. Setup the inventory by selected ‘Track it’s own inventory’. Select the unit that you count the stock in (bottle) and specify how much is in one bottle by editing the product content size. Save the product.

  3. Add how much stock there is for the product.

  4. Select add another size and link new product. This will allow you to create another product quickly with shared inventory.

  5. Add the product name, sales price, and specify how much is used when selling the product. Save the new size.

How to setup selling portions of the same item

  1. Add inventory to the main product and make sure that the counting unit is in items.

  2. Add stock to the product.

  3. Add a new size by creating a new product or linking an existing product. The additional size will be a fraction of the main product.

  4. Specify how much of the main product is used by keeping the unit as items and specifying a partial amount. For one quarter of a pizza, the partial amount is 0.25.

Adding the different product sizes to the sales grid

  1. Go to the sales grid and long press on a tile to edit the sales grid.

  2. Add the new product sizes to the tiles.

  3. If the setting ‘show inventory in sales screen’ is enabled, the quantity of available inventory will show for each product size. This will deduce when products are added to a sale.

Checking the insights

  1. Go to Products > Inventory to see how much inventory is available for the product. The available stock is based on the sales from all size.

  2. Perform a count to see how much stock is missing and the value of the waste.
