Kitchen Display, or KDS, replaces paper tickets with a live screen your team can read at a glance. For a fast-moving counter, like a coffee bar, a bar, or a takeaway counter, most of the default settings already work well. This guide covers what to check, and what to leave alone.
View type
Keep View type set to Rails. Rails groups tickets by status, so your team always knows what to do next without scrolling through a long list, and can focus on finishing one order before starting the next.
If you'd rather see more tickets on screen at once, switch to Grid, Gallery, or Compact Gallery instead.
Ticket text and density
Keep Ticket text size set to Large, so your team can read an order at a glance.
Ticket density controls how much space each ticket takes up on screen. Leave it set to Comfortable for a fast counter.
Filters and statuses
Since every order here is usually ready within minutes, keep both Filter by course status and Allowed statuses set to All. There's no need to hide anything when orders move through this quickly.
Header settings
Keep Header info set to show everything. For Header text size, select Medium. This shrinks the header slightly, freeing up more room for the ticket itself.
Advanced settings
Under Advanced, keep the defaults:
Quick Ticket Completion: on. Lets your team mark a whole ticket as done with one tap.
Complete course automatically: on.
Ticket groups: off. You're serving single orders, not multiple courses for one table.
Reorder on status change and Animate ticket layout: on. Tickets move into place automatically as soon as one is completed.
Working with multiple stations
If you run more than one station, like a bar and a coffee counter, select the station selector. You can switch between stations, or select more than one at a time to see both queues together.
Finding completed tickets
Once a ticket is marked Completed, it disappears from the main screen to keep your queue clean. You can always find it again under View closed tickets.
Using the side panel
The side panel can show a Log, a Status view, or your Products list. Select the pin icon to keep the side panel open, instead of it closing after each ticket.
Prep station settings
Go to Settings > Prep stations for two more settings:
Product sort order: choose whether products sort as ordered or alphabetically.
Ticket timer: choose whether the timer shows order time, fire time, or the time of the last update. For fast orders, Fire time usually works best. If you'd rather not show timers at all, choose whether they appear only when a ticket is expanded, always, or never.
Sound notifications
To play a sound for every new order, go to Preferences, scroll down, and turn on Sound.
