In Tebi App and online
You can sell gift cards in two ways:
Directly in person via the Tebi App, or
Online via the Tebi widget
Selling a gift card in the app
Once you've created your gift card product(s), make sure to add it to your sales grid.
Select the gift card product and go through the payment flow.
Only after the payment has been completed, a pop-up window will appear with the gift card code and the balance.
Write down the code and expiry date, and give it to the customer – they will need this code when they come to use the gift card in the future.
Note: Gift cards are tied to a code, not the name of the customer
Selling a gift card via the widget
Once you've created your gift card product(s), you can activate them in the widget by going to the Tebi Back Office > Gift Cards > Settings > toggle on Sell and redeem gift cards online
If you would like gift cards to also be applicable to reservations, toggle on the second option Carry gift card balances from reservations to sales
Click Save
You will now see a gift icon in your reservations widget
Invoices and receipts for gift card purchases
A gift card cannot be added to an invoice in Tebi for two reasons:
A gift card is a payment method, not a product When a customer buys a gift card, they are purchasing credit to use later - not a product or service.
A gift card is a liability, not revenue From an accounting perspective, a gift card sale is not revenue at the moment of purchase - it is a financial obligation that is only recognised as revenue once the gift card is redeemed.
For these reasons, gift cards should always be sold as a direct transaction in the Tebi app.
